FAQs

First of all:
We suggest you to activate the built-in Tutorial mode (bottom at every page)! It will help to guide you through ATLIGATOR. Also check if it's activated whenever you miss some extra information. If you still need more help contact us to include even more of those fancy Info boxes.
If you like to see a guided tour through the main features of the web interface, find more resources in video form about ATLIGATOR web on our YouTube channel!

We recommend starting at checking out our public Atlases. Here you will learn what an Atlas is composed of and how it is structured. Afterwards, either check out the data basis for our Atlases within Structure Collections or see how the pairwise information of Atlases is grouped in Pockets. If you have an idea of how these are build up and want to use this in a design, upload your own scaffold or create a design based on public scaffold.
Even though this is how we suggest starting to use Atligator you can start at every section to get to know Atligator web.
Please note that you'll need a user account for using Scaffold and Design.

You don't need a user account to browse and analyse the public Structure Collections, Atlases or Pockets. Additionally, all the downloadable data from these sections is available. For inspecting, creating and designing data in the Scaffold and Design sections you will need a user account, though. This is due to the draw of storage space and processing power of these applications which we have to control to keep the server stable.

Due to limited processing power we cannot allow unlimited simultaneous processes. Since we want to offer everyone the opportunity to use our tools we want them to make them available and relative easy to use. Thus, we need to find a balance of functionality and restrictions. Unfortunately, Atlas generation and Pocket mining are demanding tasks and will slow down the whole server, if applied in a significant number. If you are interested in a certain Atlas, please use our Atligator source code from github or contact us to make it available for Atligator web. In the future, we plan to implement a system to let users create their own Atlases indepentently within Atligator web - stay tuned!
